About AHA
INTRODUCTION
The American Halal Association (AHA) is a non-profit Association that has been formed to provide a common platform for the stakeholders in the Halal industry in North America.
As the Halal market continues to expand all over the world, the importance of the Halal sector in the North America becomes more apparent.
The nine million Muslims living in the USA represent a powerful consumer segment responsible for spending an estimated $170 billion annually; a significant portion of this is naturally spent on food and personal care items.
In addition to the domestic market, Halal represents an important opportunity for exporters to access overseas markets, especially in the Middle East and South East Asia
The AHA has been formed by a group of committed Halal industry professionals to strengthen the industry and stimulate the market, and to connect American Halal market stakeholders to the groundswell of interest and activity in the Halal sector world-wide.
With its well-developed infrastructure and strong Muslim population with considerable purchasing power, the US Halal market has the potential for major expansion, which will, in turn, have a significant impact on the global Halal market.
The American Halal Association was first conceived in 2006, when it was becoming increasingly clear that the US Halal industry had the potential for major expansion globally.
A group of dedicated Halal industry stakeholders in the USA have gathered to discuss ways to move forward with this initiative to strengthening the Halal sector in North America.
The formation of the AHA has been a direct result of the ideas and aims expressed in these meetings.
Registered in Illinois as a non-profit association, and the aims and goals of AHA are
- ‣To provide a platform for all parties working towards the success of the Halal market within North America
- ‣To nurture, elevate and strengthen the US Halal Industry to fulfill its highest potential
- ‣To provide a channel of communication between Halal industry players and other governmental and non-governmental entities both at home and overseas.
